OATLALI (South African chess game)
OATLALI is a new South African chess,a two player turn based strategy board game, played on a nine-by-nine board. Each player consists of 22 pieces, just like any other chess game it's objective is to checkmate the opponent's king.
OATLALI was created in 2019 by Moeketsi Mohlakola, developed by Ndimphiwe Sityata. And it was inspired by other chess games around the world. Games like Shogi, Xaingqi, Janggi, Makruk, Chess ect.
And also by other strategy board games like Gomoki, Othello, Hnefatafle Morabaraba and many more.
Even though it is created in nowadays it is based on ancient South African warfare including Africa as whole long before Europeans colonized mother Africa.
There are three variants of OATLALI, there is one that doesn't have promotion for pawns and the king is the strongest piece, there is one that that pawns do get promotion, and the is the last one were each player can use other player's pieces when captured and also can player created his/her formation if the player doesn't want to you the game's custom formation.
As said that each player consists of 22 pieces, the are 8 types of piece.
King(×1), General(×2), Wizard(×2), Horse(×2), Rook(×2), Spear(×2), Healer(×2) and Pawn(×9)
